SCHOOL CONCERTS AND WORKSHOPS

THE PETE LETANKA TRIO - This trio of piano, double bass and drums play a mixture of jazz standards and Pete’s own compositions. You’ll hear influences of Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington and Abdullah Ibrahim.

THE CAPE CRUSADERS - This sextet (featuring trumpet, saxophone and trombone) play music inspired by some of the great South African Jazz musicians: Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekela and Bheki Mseleku.

  • To see the process, watch this 6-minute film here.

  • Projects can be scaled to run over 1, 3, 5 days and beyond with students of all ages and stages.

  • Our 4-year programmes with termly or annual visits can become a school’s music provision. These cover all the music aims and objectives of the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1-3.

  • Our jazz projects can become an integral part of a school’s league table position. (See Telegraph article.)

  • CPD sessions are offered to teachers to ensure the project has a lasting impact.

  • Students are given musical resources to extend their studies both before and after the project.

  • We work creatively with a wide range of musical ensembles: from choirs to classroom instruments, from Big Bands to Symphony Orchestras.

  • Projects can be used to explore classroom topics: from inspirational people to climate change. From social and cultural issues to an exploration of dinosaurs and fossils.

  • The music created by students will be notated and can be used for repeat performances.

  • We have an option of evening activities with public performances where students will be invited to perform alongside The Pete Letanka Trio or The Cape Crusaders.
